Build Green with Horner

The built environment has a profound impact on our natural environment, economy, health and productivity.

In the United States, buildings account for:*
36% of total energy use
65% of electricity consumption
30% of greenhouse gas emissions
30% of raw materials use
30% of waste output/136 million tons annually
12% of potable water consumption

As a millwork distributor, we believe our impact in the buildingindustry plays a major role in conserving natural resources, improving comfort and health in the homes that are built, reducing waste, and reducing energy costs by providing home builders with products thatmeet the standards for green building.

We are aligned with suppliers that are also committed to greenbuilding and environmental practices; pushing them to further develop green building products that we can sell to our customers. For the products that we manufacture, Cooper Stairs, Captiva Wood Door, and our CraftedMouldings, we have the option of purchasing lumber that is certifiedlumber.

For a number of years we've been recycling but as we commit to making a larger impact on the environment we are addressing additional recycling and environmental issues in our manufacturing process and throughout our entire company. We believe that small things will make an impact and have recently switched from using Styrofoam cups in our offices to recyclable paper cups.

We will continue to educate our employees and our customers on environmental issues and green building. Currently we recycle cardboard, wood pallets, scrap wood, sawdust, scrap metal, waste oil, freon, metal drums, batteries, computers, electronic waste such as fax machines and printers, and light bulbs. We are currently working with the local utility company on a lighting project that will save 338,281kilowatt hours annually.
